What Changes in Sourcing Risk Between a Touch-Screen Assembly and a Standard LCD?

A touch-screen assembly is not a standard LCD with a higher price. It is a different object, and it needs a second inspection list.

A sourcing manager who ranks liquid-crystal display — LCD — lines by unit price is not hunting for the cheapest carton. The useful question is which failures that carton was actually checked against. A display-only list reads the panel: model, version, size, resolution, interface, brightness, dead pixels, light leakage, flicker, backlight, and whether the host will take it. A touch-screen assembly is that LCD plus the touch layer, sold as one unit. The display cells still have to be filled. So do touch, multi-touch, the flex — the ribbon that carries touch signals — camera or sensor cut-outs, mounting holes, and host fit. Copy a display-only dead-pixel rule onto that unit and the rule is not tighter. The extra cells are simply blank.
